Youth Programs

We believe that when our youth can learn in a safe environment, they will uplift their families and community.

After School Program

Does your child need homework help after school? Does he or she have a place to go to after school? If you do not have anyone available to watch them during the afternoon, enroll your child in the APACC After School Program! APACC After School Program is an equal-opportunity program open to all youth who live in San Francisco. Spots in the program are first-come, first-serve.

In addition to regular homework assistance and tutoring, we provide several recreation activities, including but not limited to:

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Each week, we will introduce our youth to science and engineering concepts through hands-on projects and career activities.
  • Gardening. We partner with community gardener Anne Seeman to take our kids to the Visitacion Valley Greenway to learn about environmental justice and gardening skills.
  • Karate. We partner with Tiger Palm Shaolin Ken Po instructor Teodora Ildefonzo-Olmo, who teaches our youth self defense skills and basic ken po karate.
  • Yoga. We partner with Niroga Institute to bring Dynamic Mindfulness so that our youth can learn to manage stress and recognize healthy ways to deal with their stress with physical movement and art.

Our academic mentors are all college-educated, and many of them were raised in Visitacion Valley. We understand the importance of breaking the cycle of poverty, and there is no better way than when our children can go to college. We partner with San Francisco State University, City College of San Francisco, and University of San Francisco to bring college students to teach and tutor our children.

When: Monday to Friday, 2 – 7 PM

Grades Accepted: 1st to 8th grade

What if I need my child picked up from school? School pick ups are available for students who attend Visitacion Valley Elementary School and Our Lady of Visitacion School.

Parent Testimony:

“Without the after-school program, my child would become addicted to video games and would not be motivated to study. They will also get a low grade in English reading and math. At last, I think Asian Pacific American Community Center is very helpful to my child.” – Yun, Long Fang

“The program is very important to me and my son because they have helped a lot with my son’s homework. I have benefited in that most of the time, I do not have the knowledge to help with my son’s homework and I really like that they have free time to do physical activities which is very important for their development.” – Leonor Hernandez

“Thank you for everything for making [my daughter] an educated girl. Today, I congratulate the staff for being good teachers.” – Yolanda Gutierrez

Summer Program

Wondering where your child will be during the summer when school is out? Worried about your child not doing anything this summer and staying home all day alone?

Enroll your child with APACC’s Summer Program! We provide 8 to 9 weeks of programming from June to August from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Every day is full of activities, field trips out in the community, and special field trips on Fridays. We provide lunches and snacks every day. Our activities are education based so that youth continue to practice math, reading, and writing during the summer so that they are prepared when they return to school.

Fee applies. Contact APACC for inquiries on fee price. Pick up your application at APACC’s office.

When: Weekdays, 8:30 AM – 5 PM

Grades Accepted: 1st grade to 8th grade (however 8th graders will be strongly recommended to the paid MYEEP internship)

Parent Testimony:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for giving [my son] the opportunity of joining your summer camp program. He really enjoyed it very much and is very grateful for all the experiences provided by APACC. I am pleased to see how your influence had such a positive impact on his development.” – Anna Gajewska

“I really do appreciate your team helping all the kids growth. All the kids [are] super lucky to have your team. They somewhat know but not realize the real importance of big brother and big sister support yet. I just want to thank your team for everything you guys had done.” – Gary Tan
